A legacy carried forward
Every story begins with a memory. At Jewish Heritage Tours Amsterdam, we walk through the city’s Jewish past guided by those memories. Lived and remembered through generations.

Guided by memory
Jewish Heritage Tours Amsterdam was founded by Gaby Schrijver Dreese, a born and raised Jewish Amsterdammer whose family story is deeply intertwined with the city itself. Her great-grandparents were deported to Bergen-Belsen. Her grandparents went into hiding. Her father, Lucas Dreese survived the Holocaust as a child together with his mother in hiding in Friesland.
Today, Gaby walks the same streets her family once knew. She brings their stories, and those of so many others, back to life — step by step, word by word.

She founded Jewish Heritage Tours Amsterdam not simply to tell history, but to keep memory alive, to create connection, and to honour those who came before. And she does so not alone, but alongside other Jewish guides, each carrying their own stories and memories, each voice adding another thread to the tapestry of Jewish Amsterdam.

“I founded Jewish Heritage Tours not only to tell history,” Gaby says, “but to preserve memory, create connection, and honour those who came before.”

The community
Gaby is not only a guide; she has been a steady presence within Amsterdam’s Jewish community for decades. For more than forty years, she has devoted herself to Jewish education — teaching religion and tradition to children and adults alike, preparing children for their Bar and Bat Mitzvah, and leading workshops, storytelling sessions, and programs of remembrance.
Her work within the community is guided by a deep passion for Jewish continuity, learning, and memory — the same values that lie at the heart of Jewish Heritage Tours Amsterdam.

Our tours are therefore not told through facts and dates alone, but passed on through stories of hiding, loss, resistance, and rebuilding. We invite you to listen to these stories, to feel them, to walk in their traces, and to carry them with you.
